The Secret of Bermuda Triangle
Theories abound as to why ships and planes have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. Some theories suggest that the area is haunted, while others speculate that the disappearances are the result of extraterrestrial activity, human error, or natural phenomena.
One of the earliest recorded disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle occurred in 1918, when the USS Cyclops, a United States Navy collier, vanished without a trace with over 300 people on board. Since then, many other ships and planes have disappeared in the area, including the USS Scorpion, which sank in 1968, and Flight 19, a group of five U.S. Navy TB Avenger torpedo bombers that disappeared during a training mission in 1945.
At 2 p.m on December 5th , 1945 five US Navy Torpedo bombers departed from the US Naval Air Station base in Fort Lauderdale Florida. These Navy air crafts were flying out into a region known as the Bermuda Triangle, a section of Atlantic Ocean stretching from Miami to Bermuda and down to Puerto Rico. Around this time in 1940's, the Bermuda triangle was finding it's way in the news for having an unusually high number of air crafts and ships mysteriously disappearing out in the ocean.Researches couldn't figure out as to why despite this alarming number of disappearances. These five US Navy Torpedo bombers set out into the Bermuda triangle for a routine training mission known as the flight 19 . This training mission was led by lieutenant Charles Taylor who had over 2500 hours of flight time considered very high for the time.Surely, with a pilot this experienced, nothing could go wrong .Flight 19's mission was to fly east from this air station and drop some bombs as a training exercise over a coral reef called Hen and Chicken. After dropping the bombs here, the group of five air crafts would then fly North over the Grand Bahama island and then finally turn west and head back towards Fort Lauderdale. The weather was forecasted to be mostly clear with a slight chance of scattered showers. As a group of five bombers departed Fort Lauderdale , everything was going as planned. Flight 19 dropped their test bombs over Hen and Chicken reef and then began heading North towards grand Bahama island as flight 19 began heading North that was when very unusual problems began to arise at approximately 3:45.Now an hour and 45 minutes after the flight first departed.Lieutenant Taylor began back to the Fort Lauderdale flight tower sounding very confused and worried Taylor said that he did not see land referring to the Grand Bahama island and believed that the flight 19 had veered a very off course . The Fort Lauderdale flight tower then got on the radio and responded, ''What is your position?'' Then , silence. The flight tower at Lauderdale was supposed to still see flight 19 out in the distance as it was a clear day and they weren't all that far from land but as the ground crew at Fort Lauderdale looked out into the distance , there were no fighter jets to be seen. After a few minutes of silence Taylor than radioed back to the flight tower and said, ''We cannot be sure where we are, we cannot see land.'' The flight tower was attempting to radio back to Taylor and flight 19 but for 10 minutes all they got back was silence. Flight tower learned that Lieutenant Taylor had turned over his command to another pilot for unknown reasons. That is all the flight tower heard though followed by another 20 minutes of silence. Finally, another pilot from flight 19 was able to call into the air tower in a state of panic. He said,''It looks like we are entering white water.''The Lauderdale flight tower could now tell that flight 19 was in serious trouble so they sent out two other military rescue jets out into the ocean to look for flight 19.They were instructed to go to flight 19's last known location. 10 minutes after the jets took off and checked with the flight tower, these rescue jets also lost all radio transmission with fort Lauderdale flight tower. Now, seven different air crafts had disappeared in the ocean with a spam of just 30 minutes.Coming days, the US Navy and coast guards sent out ships and plains to find out what had happened to these air crafts but nothing was ever found.
This mysterious disappearance was just one of the ships and air crafts that had disappeared in the
Bermuda triangle but why here?
After years , investigators came to believe that pilots in flight 19 were having problems with their compasses. Many pilots and sailors have encountered this problem in the Bermuda triangle leading to many other crashes or disappearances. It was discovered that Lieutenant Taylor had believed that he was actually flying over the Florida keys and was heading West.Flight 19 was not over Florida keys though. They were actually very close to their originally planned out flight path.they were over grand Bahama island which many say looks familiar to Florida keys at least from above .In this state of confusion,Taylor directed the flight 19 to begin heading Northeast.
Strong ocean currents, like the Gulf Stream, can pull ships off course. Some believe unusual magnetic forces cause compass malfunctions, making navigation difficult. However, there’s no scientific proof of a major magnetic disturbance in the Bermuda Triangle. Many disappearances could be due to miscalculations, navigation mistakes, or running out of fuel. The triangle covers a busy shipping and flight route, increasing the chance of accidents. The seafloor in the Bermuda Triangle is extremely deep, making wreckage hard to find.Rogue waves (huge, unpredictable waves over 100 feet tall) could sink ships suddenly. Some scientists speculate that methane gas eruptions from the ocean floor could create bubbles that sink ships. Some believe in extraterrestrial activity or time warps, but there's no scientific backing.
